From Fashion Campaign to Nonprofit Movement: Uplifting Survivor Voices Through Art and Ending Human Trafficking.
Designer Anyango Mpinga launched Free As A Human in 2018 as a fashion campaign to support HAART Kenya’s shelter for girls and women affected by human trafficking. What began as a creative call to action has evolved into a global non-profit movement using fashion, art, and education to champion survivor-led empowerment.
Since 2022, Free As A Human has expanded its mission to empowering survivors of human trafficking by equipping them with the education, skills training, and industry opportunities needed to build sustainable careers in fashion. Through specialized programs in design, textile innovation, garment construction, and entrepreneurship, we provide survivors with the technical expertise and creative confidence to thrive in the fashion industry.
We integrate mentorship, hands-on training, and access to cutting-edge fashion technology, ensuring that survivors gain both practical skills and professional networks. By fostering creativity and self-expression, we not only help survivors reclaim their futures but also challenge industry norms and advocate for a more ethical, inclusive fashion landscape.
We stand for education that empowers, skills that transform, and opportunities that create lasting economic independence.
Our fight doesn’t stop until trafficking ends.
BECAUSE
slavery exists.
BECAUSE
industries need change.
BECAUSE
survivors must be heard.
BECAUSE
resources enable new paths.
